Beauty Tip Organic Argan Oil

I have severely sensitive skin and have a hard time with most over the counter beauty products and makeup without being left with some sort of adverse reaction. I thought something was wrong with me until thoroughly researching products and ingredients and finding that many over the counter products were full of  scary harmful ingredients. My body simply rejected them. 🙂 Well thanks to my sensitive skin I have found some amazing products that actually work. One of which is organic argan oil.

I started using organic argan oil after I found that it had been a beauty secret used by celebrities for that Hollywood red carpet glow. Now it is my go to beauty treatment. It is full of essential fatty acids, anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals that promote your overall health by moisturizing, softening as well as protecting your face and hair from sun damage without harmful toxins and parabens. True unaltered Argan Oil is said to be miraculous with numerous benefits and is called liquid gold for its wondrous results. Here are some benefits and uses for organic argan oil.

Benefts:

Healthy glowing skin – It relieves the effects of patchy skin and lackluster locks. It also is richer than olive oil in vitamin E and is packed full of fatty acids marking it as be one of nature’s most effective moisturisers.

Sensitive skin – It’s gentle enough to use on all skin types and is even believed to help with skin conditions including acne and eczema.

Shiny hair- Great for all hair types for that beautiful healthy shine.

Uses:

1. Face Moisturizer – After cleansing morning and/or night, massage a few drops of argan oil directly onto your face and neck. Since argan is considered a dry oil, it absorbs quickly and does not leave an oily residue.
2. Hydrating Toner – Add a few drops of argan oil to your favorite facial toner to hydrate and tone simultaneously. You can make your own toner by adding a few drops of argan oil to Rose or Orange Blossom water.
3. Rejuvenating & Brightening Face Mask – Add a few drops of argan oil to your store-bought bentonite clay mask. Alternatively, make your own mask by mixing 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice, 3 teaspoons dried plain oats, 1/2 tablespoon of organic raw honey and 3 drops of argan oil in a bowl. Apply on a clean, dry face and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
4. Exfoliating Lip Scrub and Moisturizer – To smooth and moisturize your lips, add a few drops of argan oil and vanilla extract to fine brown sugar. Lightly massage into lips using circular motion and rinse off.
5. Face Glow – Add a drop or two of argan oil to your foundation, bronzer or tinted moisturizer for a dewy, luminous glow.
6. Leave-on Conditioner – After the shower, while your hair is still wet, add a few drops of argan oil to your hair, ends and scalp to hydrate and moisturize. It’s especially nourishing if your hair is dry from daily use of a blow dryer, straight-iron or curling iron.
7. Hair Styling Shine – When your hair is dry, use as a styling product by adding a few drops of argan oil to the palms of your hand. Rub your hands together and run your fingers through your hair to create shine and tame frizz. You only need a small amount. It lasts a long time.

Not all organic argan oil is created equal however. After purchasing a clear bottled brand (cost $17 for 1 fl oz) from Whole Foods recommended by the helpful clerk, I found out that it was not the best argan oil. Though it was moisturizing, I was not getting the full benefit of true organic argan oil, but rather the modified effects of a whittled down cheap version. According to the experts, when it comes to argon oil cheaper is not better as sunlight destroys its properties. Because of this, any brand sold in a clear bottle rather than a dark bottle is not worth its time to purchase. Here are some tips for purchasing organic argan oil.

Tips on purchasing the best argan oil

1. Make sure it is in a dark bottle – Light breaks down the oil’s best properties and keeping it inside something dark is the only way to store Argan Oil.

2. Ingredient list should be very short – It should just say 100% Argan Oil or 100% Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil.  If it has anything else listed you don’t want it.

3. Make sure it is 100% pure cold pressed (unrefined)

Where to purchase?

I found a company called Saadia Organics which is based in Morocco and Canada.

Here is their site for more information on argan oil and best place to purchase.
